At its meeting on June 30, the Anderlecht City Council approved a new parking plan for the Bon Air neighborhood, the city announced on Friday. This measure aims to resolve a situation that has been considered problematic for several months due to a lack of legal parking spaces and illegal parking in the neighborhood.

The municipality notes that in April 2025, the city council suspended parking enforcement by parking.brussels in the neighborhood due to the widespread nature of parking violations. At the same time, the Mobility Department explored the possibility of converting Bon Air into a shared space to provide a sustainable solution. Two scenarios were then presented to residents during a one-month public consultation. The so-called“maximalist” version received the majority of votes. It calls for the creation of approximately 340 parking spaces.

The project could still be adjusted at the request of Siamu and the police, who had already issued a favorable opinion on the creation of the shared space in January 2025, ahead of implementation planned for 2027 by the Public Works Department.

According to Halina Benmrah (MR), the alderwoman for Mobility and Participation, this plan will allow residents to park“legally and safely” and will restore equal treatment with the rest of the municipality, where parking enforcement is in effect. Mayor Fabrice Cumps (PS) believes that transforming the neighborhood into a shared space provides a solution to a situation that has become“more untenable” and should help balance the needs of residents, pedestrians, and motorists. Julien Milquet (Les Engagés), the alderman for Public Works, states that municipal departments will implement the improvements according to their schedule in 2027.
