The Bikes in Brussels Fund has granted further support of almost 1.5 million euros to 13 projects for cycling facilities, including schools, associations and public authorities, the King Baudouin Foundation announced on Tuesday.

Spread across several communes in Brussels, the initiatives supported respond to very concrete needs: making parking safer, facilitating daily travel and making cycling safer, more affordable and attractive in the capital.

Among the projects supported are an 80-space bicycle parking facility at the Athénée Royal in Auderghem and secure bicycle parking facilities in Berchem-Sainte-Agathe.

In Uccle, the Royal Racing Club de Bruxelles will extend its bicycle parking facilities for 3,000 visitors a week, among other things. In addition, the Fund is supporting four larger-scale projects that strengthen cycling links between Brussels and its outskirts, such as the extension of the F2 fast cycle route to Brussels, creating a safe cycling connection between Flanders and the capital.

At the same time, the second edition of the Bikes in Brussels Awards has been launched to encourage the development of innovative projects for smoother cycling mobility. Projects completed in 2024 or 2025, in and around Brussels, can be entered until Monday May 11. They must be permanently available, sustainable and not have received funding from the Fund. There are three categories: bike parking facilities, bike paths, and bike bridges, tunnels and expressways.

The Bikes in Brussels Fund has supported more than 120 cycling infrastructure projects over the past seven years.
