Ghana to abolish visa fees for African countries from May 25, 2026
Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has announced the abolition of visa fees, as of May 25, for nationals of African countries who will be able to obtain free e-visas online, a measure aimed at boosting intra-African mobility.
Accra's new immigration policy is designed to facilitate intra-African mobility and strengthen continental integration.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa pointed out, however, that visa applicants will have to comply with the procedure for security checks.
"Not paying a visa fee doesn't mean you won't be subject to a visa check [...] Africans will still have to follow a visa application procedure like everyone else, but it will be free of charge," he clarified on social network X.
