The twinning charter was officially signed on Tuesday March 31, 2026 at L'Arcadie by David Carrega, mayor of Ploudalmézeau, and Elen Jones, mayor of Porthcawl, in the presence of members of both towns' twinning committees.

Porthcawl is a town in Wales with a population of over 16,000, while Ploudalmézeau has a population of 6,657.

This new twinning follows on from the one Ploudalmézeau has had with Cullompton (Devon) since 1977. The latter was put on hold after the Covid-19 pandemic, due to the non-renewal of the twinning committee on the English side.

"This signature marks a new stage

The Ploudalmézeau-Portsall twinning committee had been looking for another partner town ever since. In 2024, the two committees of Porthcawl and Ploudalmézeau, whose respective twinning arrangements had expired, came together. "David Carrega and Elen Jones were delighted to welcome the signing of this agreement, which marks a new stage in the development of strong links between our territories, based on friendship, cultural and linguistic exchanges, and a shared desire to build lasting projects.
