Burkina Faso: 8 hectares of market garden land developed for the women of Komtoega
The Minister Secretary General of the Presidency of Faso, Dr Zakaria Soré, representing the President of Faso, handed over a market gardening plot to the women of the rural commune of Komtoèga in the Nakambé region on Tuesday March 3, 2026, according to the Presidency's communications department.
The 8-hectare site has 32 basins, offering a capacity of 41m³/h of water at any one time. It is fully fenced and equipped with 2 polytanks supplied by an integrated circuit of 3 boreholes equipped with solar energy systems. Called "Périmètre maraîcher du 8-Mars des femmes de Komtoèga", the site aims to empower women in line with the vision of the President of Faso.
"In the vision of sovereignty of His Excellency Captain Ibrahim TRAORÉ, he decided that this site should be developed not only to enable women to work, to benefit from the spin-offs of their activities, but also to enable them to make a living.es from their activities, but also so that this site can be a lever for development for the commune of Komtoèga", said Dr Zakaria Soré.
The beneficiaries' representative, Habibou Zéba, expressed her gratitude to the Head of State. She added that this site was an opportunity for women to develop their market gardening activities and generate income at the same time. Following the development of the perimeter, the second phase of the project will consist of providing women producers with inputs, fertilizers and agricultural equipment, in order to make them true players in endogenous development and social transformation.
