Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac has earmarked $10 million to build a new fire station by 2027. According to mayor Christian St-Pierre, this will be necessary to meet new standards for decontamination of fire equipment and occupational health and safety.

Over the next year, the municipal team will determine its needs before officially launching the project. The Town of Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac has targeted a piece of land it owns, located between the Notre-Dame-du-Lac and Cabano districts.

The existing fire stations in our two neighborhoods are outdated, and we need to have a vision. We need to bring in a fire station that's safe and well positioned.

A quote from Christian St-Pierre, mayor of Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac

The Town of Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac is considering joining forces with neighboring municipalities to develop this project and pool decontamination services. The proportion of the government subsidy granted for the construction of this new fire station could increase depending on these possible intermunicipal agreements.

The fire station is a wish. If we don't get subsidies, we can't build it, that's for sure," adds Mayor Christian St-Pierre. In his opinion, refurbishing the two existing fire stations on Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac is not an option.

Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac's three-year capital investment program totals $29.4 million. In addition to the $10 million for the fire station, other major projects include upgrading wastewater treatment plants in the Notre-Dame-du-Lac and Cabano districts, extending the drinking water intake in Lake Témiscouata and repairing St-Viateur, Commerciale Sud and Caron streets.

What we've put into the three-year capital expenditure program are important things that we want to move forward on, while giving our citizens clear answers," explains the mayor of Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac.

Slight increase in tax bill

The Town of Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac's budget totals $14.6 million for 2026. The increase in the tax bill for an average residence, valued at around $240,000, will be 1.75%. This represents an increase of about $52. It was the best rate we could have while maintaining our services to our citizens, which was extremely important to me," emphasizes the mayor.

Mr. St-Pierre is proud of the work accomplished by his team in recent weeks. He reports that investors have been knocking on the Town of Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac's door lately. New construction would enable the town to increase its tax revenues in order to finance its own development projects.
