Togo: a 1.7 million euro program to strengthen agricultural climate resilience
In Togo, phase II of the TERSAA program (Transition des Systèmes Agricoles et Alimentaires sur les Territoires ruraux - Transition of Agricultural and Food Systems in Rural Territories) has just kicked off, on the sidelines of a meeting being held in Lomé until this Thursday, October 9, 2025.
Funded to the tune of 1.7 million euros, the program is managed by Acting for Life (AFL), with the support of partners including Agence Française de Développement (AFD), Fondation Air France and Fondation de France.
Scheduled to run for 3 years (June 2025 - May 2028), TERSAA II aims to strengthen the resilience of agricultural and food systems in four countries, including Togo and Benin. In detail, it targets 8593 producers and processors, 50% of whom are women, and will indirectly benefit nearly 750,000 people. The program includes the extension of agro-ecological practices over a further 95 hectares, the training of 1,235 producers, and the creation of three trust labels to promote local products.
According to Estelle Dandoy, head of AFL's Food Systems division, this phase consolidates the achievements of TERSAA I (2021-2025), while promoting market access for 31 producer organizations. The initiative also supports the promotion of "local consumption" and the integration of local authorities in the sustainable management of natural resources.
For Ana Quintela (AFD), this program illustrates "an innovative territorial approach that combines sustainability, equity and competitiveness", helping to strengthen local agricultural sectors.
