Togo: start of a campaign to distribute school kits, more than half a billion FCFA mobilized

On Tuesday September 9, 2025 in Djémégni, in the Plateaux region, Togo launched a vast campaign to distribute school kits to over 100,000 girls in 800 localities across the country, at a total estimated cost of 602 million FCFA.

The event brought together students, parents and teachers from a wide range of backgrounds to support this initiative, which targets girls attending public primary and secondary schools in vulnerable localities.

The kits include basic supplies and equipment to help girls continue their education, and will be used by beneficiaries during the 2025-2026 school year, which starts on September 15.

"The aim is to reduce disparities in access and ensure that all pupils, especially girls and women, have access to education.students, especially girls and children with disabilities, benefit from quality education", explained Sandra Johnson.

The action is part of Axis 1 of the government's 2020-2025 Roadmap, which aims to " strengthen social inclusion and harmony and consolidate peace " through free, compulsory and equitable education.

The operation is part of the SWEDD+ (Women's Empowerment and Demographic Dividend in the Enlarged Sahel) regional project, financed to the tune of 37.5 billion FCFA by the World Bank. In addition to the distribution of kits, the program includes awareness-raising initiatives and support for families and communities to combat cultural and economic barriers to education.
