France/Guiche: the twinning association wants to get the Hiriart barn talking
The Guiche Auchterhouse twinning association is interested in the monumental barn of the Maison Hiriart, which may date back to the 12th century.
With the restoration by the municipality of the important Maison Hiriart in the center of Guiche, the Guiche Auchterhouse twinning association has turned its attention to the fate of the building's monumental barn, whose origins it traces back to the 12th century.
It's certainly one of the oldest buildings in the Bidache region," says Jean-Pierre Robert, president of the association.
Carbon-14 dating
Two specialist researchers have been studying this long-standing building. Their work includes an analysis of the timbers: "This research opens up a whole new perspective on the history of the village and the evolution of its built heritage", based on carbon-14 dating.
"The Hiriart house will be included in the European Heritage Days itinerary on September 20 and 21, 2025.For security reasons, it will not be possible to visit it, but its presence will be evoked and put into perspective in the history of Guiche, alongside the lay abbey and other emblematic sites."The first conclusions of the study currently underway will be presented.
