Morocco/El Jadida: Sidi Abed beach awarded "Blue Flag" status for the 5th consecutive year

The "Pavillon Bleu" label was awarded to Sidi Abed beach on Monday for the fifth year running, in recognition of the quality of the bathing water, the cleanliness of the site and compliance with environmental and safety standards.

A ceremony was held to mark the occasion, attended by the President of the Communal Council, representatives of the local authorities, the beach manager, OCP officials and members of civil society.

Awarded annually by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), the "Blue Flag" label has been promoted in Morocco since 2002 by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa.

The beach, located 30 km south of the city of El Jadida, was awarded the flag after also meeting criteria relating to bathing water quality environmental awareness and education, as well as health, safety, planning and management.

In a statement to MAP, Mohamed Safari, President of the Sidi Abed Commune, said that the beach had benefited from a number of renovations, mainly involving the refurbishment of the beach.renovations, mainly involving the rehabilitation of its sanitary infrastructure, the installation of surveillance and signage, and the development of access adapted to people with disabilities.

This achievement is the fruit of the remarkable efforts of all our partners, particularly in terms of safety, cleanliness and seawater quality," he added, adding that the local council is committed to ensuring optimal conditions for bathing and camping at the beach.

For his part, Said Zougui, the director of Sidi Abed beach, declared that this blue label is the result of a major project overseen by the local council and coordinated with other partners, notably the prefecture of the province of El Jadida.

All those involved are working together to ensure the proper management of the beach facilities, in strict compliance with established standards, including cleanliness, prevention, maintenance, safety and the environment.This includes conditions of cleanliness, prevention, maintenance, equipment and safety, noting that 50 umbrellas have been added thanks to a contribution from OCP.

The "Blue Flag" label is an international benchmark for the quality of coastal sites. It is awarded by the European Foundation for Environmental Education to distinguish coastal sites that meet quality and safety criteria.

To obtain this flag, a candidate site must meet a number of criteria relating to cleanliness, safety and sustainable development awareness, as well as sports, cultural and artistic activities.
