One of Villers-la-Ville's must-see places is its former abbey. Did you know that it was one of the most important monastic foundations in our region, before the often catastrophic principles of the French Revolution tore down this Cistercian site, a must-see in Europe?

Parts of the abbey inspired Victor Hugo to write one of his masterpieces, Les Misérables. It's true that the place is not devoid of mystery and historical anecdotes... sometimes spicy and biblical.

And since Luana has decreed that her battle cry will be "At Villers-la-Ville, we do everything with style", this abbey was erected at the end of the 19th century.erected at the end of the 12th century and in the course of the following century, in the stripped-down Gothic style so dear to the monks of Cîteaux.Parts of the buildings were rebuilt or completed in the 16th and 18th centuries, such as the abbot's palace, built between 1720 and 1721...
