Togo: the TINGA Fund relaunches its low-cost prefinanced electricity connections campaign
In Togo, the TINGA rural electrification fund has just announced the resumption of its campaign of pre-financed connections to electricity grids in all electrified localities in the country.
From now on, households can benefit from a Lafia connection (2 or 4 wires) for a symbolic initial payment of 1,000 FCFA. This heavily subsidized rate is designed to remove the economic barriers to domestic electrification.
CEET teams are mobilized in the field to raise awareness and register households.
Initially launched in April 2022, this government initiative aims to broaden access to electricity, particularly for vulnerable households, through an accessible prepayment model.
For the executive, the scheme is in line with a rationale of social justice and inclusive development.access to electricity is seen as a fundamental lever for economic growth, education and health.
At the end of 2024, the rate of access to electricity in Togo was 70%, according to data provided by the Ministry of Mines and Energy.by the Ministry of Mines and Energy Resources, marking an improvement on the 68% announced for 2023, and 50% for 2020.
