The Collectivité territoriale de Saint-Pierre et Miquelon, in cooperation with Archipel Développement, launched its "open data" platform on April 24. The aim is to make public life more transparent.

Find out about the number of people entering the archipelago as recorded by the Border Police, the evolution and structure of the population of Saint-Pierre & Miquelon, or the financial data of the Collectivité territoriale... A digital open data platform, launched on Thursday April 24, is now available.

The initiative was the brainchild of the Conseil territorial and Archipel Développement, with the help of Nantes-based Civiteo andopen data specialists Datactivist. "Statistical invisibility for so many years", notes Bernard Briand, President of the Collectivité territoriale, in a post on the LinkedIn social network.

The "Open Data Saint-Pierre et Miquelon" platform already lists 35 data sets and almost 199,445 records accessible to all. It is intended to be gradually expanded.

Sometimes difficult to find, this data comes from the services of the Collectivité territoriale as well as from national databases, adapted to the territory. "Saint-Pierre et Miquelon is proudly entering the era of open data," explains Archipel Développement and the Collectivité in a publication on the platform.

This was a legal obligation for all local authorities with more than 3,500 inhabitants since the Lemaire law of October 07, 2016 for a digital Republic. "Opening" public data ("open data" in English) and data of general interest, as well as the creation of a "public data service", such was the ambition of this law.

On the other hand, certain documents may not be published "subject to prioranonymization" or "the deletion of information concerning private life", as specified by the Direction de l'information légale et administrative (DILA).

In France, 1,062 local players, including 868 local authorities, will be opening up their data in 2022, an increase of 18 points on the previous year, according to the Observatoire Opendata des Territoires.
