Among other decisions, Niort's city council ratified its twinning with the town of Sorel-Tracy, Quebec, on Monday March 31, 2025.
Twinning. Elected representatives voted to twin with the Canadian town of Sorel-Tracy, in Quebec. " It will be based on economic and social exchanges, but also on exchanges for young people," emphasized Jérôme Baloge. Two high schools (Saint-André and Jean-Macé) are partners in the twinning. Sorel-Tracy, on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, is an industrial city equivalent in size to Niort.
Planting. As part of its canopy plan, which aims to plant 60,000 trees by 2030, the city of Niort has entered into a partnership with the Créateurs de forêt company, providing it with a 3.5-hectare plot on the Vallée Guyot site. The aim is to plant a total of 2,300 trees, shrubs and bushes during the winter of 2025-2026. Maintenance will be provided by Créateurs de forêts for five years.
