Côte d'Ivoire/ Food producers trained in market gardening techniques in Vavoua
Forty-two food crop growers, including 36 women, were trained on Monday March 24, 2025 at the Vavoua town hall in new market gardening techniques, as part of a program run by the Agence nationale d'appui au développement rural (ANADER) with financial and material support from the Agence de développement de la filière riz (ADERIZ).
The initiative concerns a 97-hectare developed area located in Yuala, some twenty kilometers from Vavoua on the Vavoua-Séguéla, 14 hectares of which are dedicated to market garden crops, explained ANADER zone manager Kéhi Rodrigue.
ANADER's annual crops trainer, Kouassi Adingra Gustave, introduced the participants to the technical itineraries adapted to market gardening. Faced with climatic variations affecting the control of rainy seasons, the growers were made aware of cultivation practices, from the nursery to the marketing of harvests.
"This training will enable them to improve their yields and reduce losses", said Mrs. Soro Tchahole, a grower interviewed at the end of the session.
"This session is part of a series of actions aimed at reinforcing food security and combating the high cost of living", emphasized Kéhi Rodrigue, adding that ANADER, with the support of ADERIZ, intends to supply local markets to restore Vavoua's role as the granary of Haut-Sassandra. The project is financed by the State of Côte d'Ivoire and the Islamic Development Bank.
