SÉNÉGAL-SOCIAL-APPUI / Thiès: mobility equipment for disabled children
The Réseau des organisations communautaires de base des acteurs de la santé (ROCBACS) has donated a batch of equipment to disabled children in Thiès, as part of an initiative implemented in conjunction with the association "La Voix des enfants vulnérables".
This initiative "stems from our experience as people living with a disability", said the network's president, El Hadj Baytir Samb, at a ceremony held on Thursday at the Thiès Regional Council.seau, El Hadj Baytir Samb, at a ceremony at the Thiès Regional Council on Thursday.
The donation consists of crutches, canes, sun creams, glasses, wheelchairs, in addition to other children's gadgets.
"We are going to provide you with support that will enable you to have autonomy, according to your specific need," Mr. Samb promised the beneficiaries.
He deplored the fact that, in his opinion, "there is no data on the presence of specific needs of disabled children".
This lack of data affects, he says, the transport, education and health sectors, where it is not known how many disabled children use public transport, go to school or attend health facilities.
"We can't give you figures," he said.
"In all areas, there is no data" on disabled children, insisted El Hadj Baytir Samb.
In addition to providing technical support for this category of children, "Voix des enfants vulnérables" plans to support the mothers of children living with disabilities whose health is fragile.
This support will focus on nutrition and food, to reduce the vulnerability of disabled children.
