February 14, 2022 marked the start of an ambitious project in Cotonou. The project, financed by the European Investment Bank, involves the construction of stormwater collectors and associated roads in the Qb catchment area.

After 29 months of work, and a total investment of 5 billion 953 million 535 thousand 122 F CFA, this project has unquestionably resulted in the construction of 1,430 linear meters of collectors, mainly in the districts of the 6th arrondissement such as Aïdjèdo, Sainte Cécile and Ahouansori. The JWHC company, with the support of the INROS-LACKER/IGIP Afrique consortium, was able to meet the requirements of the specifications. The work, from the Sainte Cécile traffic circle to the Ladji lagoon, includes safety features such as street lighting and road signs, to enhance user safety.

Mr. Oswald GANGBO, Coordinator of the Cotonou Rainwater Sanitation Program (PAPC), expressed his satisfaction with the conformity of the works: "All the reservations expressed have been lifted, and the works are in line with expectations", he remarked with pride.

At the same time, Mr Marcellin BOCOVÈ, Deputy Managing Director of AGETUR, emphasized the complexity of the project, while underlining the quality of the expertise involved. According to him, the benefits of the work are already being felt.

Mr Georges GNONLONFOUN, head of the Ahouansori Ladji district, expressed the pride of the inhabitants: "The road has become more visible and practicable, and the whole population is grateful to the Beninese government".

Cotonou is thus taking a giant step towards optimal stormwater management, protecting its citizens from cyclical flooding.
