Three hundred and twenty-two villages in the regions of Kaffrine (center), Kédougou (southeast) and Tambacounda (east) will be connected to the electricity grid by 2028, announced Ibrahima Niane, Chairman of the Energy Sector Regulation Commission (CRSE), on Thursday.

Énergie rurale africaine, a subsidiary of French utility EDF, has been awarded an electrification concession for 44 villages, with the State of Senegal responsible for electrical installations in the remaining 278 villages.

This rural electrification project concerns 17.158 households, explained the president of the CRSE at a meeting devoted to this project, chaired by Lala Camara, the deputy governor of Kaffrine, responsible for development issues in the region.

A first phase of this initiative electrified 450 villages located in the same, between 2018 and 2018.

The Agence sénégalaise d'électrification rurale, the Programme de modernisation des axes et territoires frontaliers and Société nationale d'électricité du Sénégal have connected 386 villages to the power grid, with the remaining 64 being served by ERA.
