Canada/Saguenay offers a replacement site to Loge m'entraide
Loge m'entraide will receive a new lot from the City of Saguenay to replace the one initially offered at the corner of rue Bourassa and boulevard Saguenay in Kénogami.
The land will be used to build a housing cooperative with 15 social housing units.
This was revealed by the organization's coordinator, Sonia Côté, in a press release issued late on Wednesday following a meeting with city representatives.
The information was confirmed by the mayor's office in the evening.
The mayor will be delighted if this new land option meets the organization's needs," said Jean-Sébastien Boudreault, communications director for the office, in a text message.
The location of the land has yet to be confirmed, as its transfer must first be the subject of a resolution by March 2025.
The first contaminated lot
According to Loge m'entraide, $1 million worth of decontamination work would have been required on the first lot.
With this new lot, we're not starting from scratch, but continuing with the same plans at 25% that we had already paid for, because the concept remains the same, to our great relief," explained Sonia Côté.
A lump sum of $70,000 had also been requested.
This point has been put on ice by Loge m'entraide for the time being, as the federal subsidy could perhaps make up the shortfall. The answer will certainly come in the spring, added Sonia Côté.
The construction site is expected to open by Christmas 2025.
Soil tests will also be carried out in the spring, a mandatory criterion for obtaining the $3.2 million subsidy from Quebec and the one we have applied for from the federal government, for which a response is awaited, she concluded.
