Morocco/Essaouira: training session for 40 craftswomen
More than 40 women artisans from several cooperatives in the Essaouira province benefited from a training session held recently at the Complexe Intégré de l'Artisanat "Argana" in the Cité des Alizés.
Initiated by the Provincial Handicrafts Department in collaboration with the Centre de formation et de qualification professionnelle dans les métiers de l'artisanat de Marrakech, part of the Fondation Mohammed V pour la Solidarité, this training session (December 12-13) is part of the ongoing training program for craft cooperatives.
This program aims to enhance the technical skills of craftswomen, improve the quality of handcrafted products, encourage innovation in production techniques, and promote the sustainability and competitiveness of products on local, national and international markets.
The first part of this training session was devoted to traditional sewing, with a focus on perfecting production techniques, harmonizing colors, mastering "Sfifa" techniques and developing design applied to this field.
The second section focused on handicrafts made from plant fibers, with particular emphasis on fiber dyeing techniques, methods for makingThe second section focused on the craftsmanship of plant fiber products, with particular emphasis on fiber dyeing techniques, methods of making plant fiber articles, their integration with materials such as leather and fabric, and the development of design specific to this field.
This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to promote the crafts sector in Essaouira, by enhancing local know-how and supporting the economic empowerment of women artisans.
