Cameroun/ Massock-Songloulou: When the Logkat diaspora wants their village to emerge
A large delegation of Logkat nationals living abroad is preparing to share a day of communion and solidarity with their brothers and sisters. Underlying this Christmas tree of sorts is a call for synergy in favor of the development of this locality and the entire Massock-Songloulou commune.
Saturday December 14, 2024 will undoubtedly go down in history. It's a day when Logkatiers (inhabitants of Logkat) young and old, authorities and active forces, will rise up as one man, to decide unanimously on the future of this village in the Massock-Songloulou district, in the Sanaga Maritime department of the Littoral region. A presentation of gifts to village children, a donation of 5,000 FCFA to each family residing in each of the 09 villages of this commune, and a festive Christmas banquet and meal bringing together representatives of the Diaspora, were all part of the event.representatives of the Diaspora, Logkatiers from the towns and families, are just some of the pretexts used to awaken in each of the representatives of this part of Cameroon, the imperative of a return to one's roots in order to develop the village.
"The aim of this event is to encourage people to return and repopulate the village. This would make it legitimately eligible for theinstallation of certain public services. These include schools, medical and social services, economic development, etc." explains Nestor HEMLE-MBELECK, Expert in Decentralization, Territorial Development and Decentralized Cooperation.veloppement et Coopération décentralisée, co-initiator of the movement alongside Joseph MATAT MA SOHO, a member of the local elite.
All components mobilized
An unprecedented operation will be carried out in Logkat this Saturday. The delegation led by Elise Ngo DISSO, a resident of Germany and godmother of the "Logkat Children's Christmas 2024", has scheduled a visit to the Logkat village.is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Landry Oscar NGUI and Robert BATOUM BATOUM, respectively Sub-Prefect and Mayor of Massock-Songloulou. The ISSONDJE public school will be the setting for the celebration of love and fraternity, much to the delight of the authorities, as the Mayor confides: " This is a very, very good initiative. On more than one occasion, the diaspora has shown its good sense, its altruism and, above all, its assistance to the Logkat populations and the entire Massock-Songloulou commune. Our brothersin the Logkat canton are people who are sufficiently interested in village life. People who, even when they're far from home, always think of coming back and providing the minimum necessary".
A movement motivated by a natural disaster
During the night of September 16 to 17, 2024, 09 bridges were damaged by heavy rains. Alongside the need to support local residents and rehabilitate the bridges, there was also a duty to breathe new life into the locality of Logkat, with a need to minimize the rural exodus from Massock-Songloulou.
" It all started with a spontaneous impulse. Joseph MATAT MA SOHO and I agreed to send a strong message, firstly to the parents, children and, more generally, the families who look after their beloved land, Logkat canton, on a daily basis. And secondly to the Logkatiers of the diaspora and of Cameroon's towns and cities, so that together we can mobilize inclusively to ward off the old demons of separatism, hatred and egoism.egoism that pose a huge risk of continual shrinkage in the number of people living in the 09 villages of Logkat", stresses Nestor HEMLE-MBELECK.
A dynamic is thus being set in motion, under the banner of solidarity and synergy, to breathe new life into Massock-Songloulou.
