The Missions Croquettes Solidaires association in Perpignan helps dog and cat owners to feed their little furry friends, notably by distributing kibble.

Based in Perpignan, the Missions Croquettes Solidaires association has a simple aim: to help owners of dogs and cats in difficulty. Whether it's donating kibble or toys, or working with veterinary surgeons to reduce the cost of treatment, the association's actions are far-reaching.

A love for animals at the heart of the association

"I've always loved animals," says Hugo Bidault, founder of the Missions Croquettes Solidaires association, with a smile. He decided to make his love of animals his commitment. It was two years ago that Hugo decided to create this organization (at the time, it was called "Un sourire équin"). Nearly 3,200 people a year seek help from his association.

The missions are many and varied. Of course, the main one is the distribution of kibble. Every Tuesday, people in need come to 4 rue Pierre-Jean Béranger, in Perpignan. Once there, volunteers welcome and hand out a bag of croquettes, containing enough food for a week.

To benefit from the association's help, you need to bring proof of income, an ID card and the animal's identification. Volunteers then take the time to look at the overall situation, before granting assistance.

Different types of action depending on needs

While kibble distribution remains the main activity, the association also offers other types of assistance. In partnership with certain veterinary clinics, it offers discounts on treatment if the animal is ill.

To help as many people as possible, the association relies heavily on donations from individuals. Recently, some brands have offered to help. Ultra Direct Premium will be sending a truckload of food.

"Our aim is to leave the animal in its home for as long as possible," explains Hugo Bidault. "Some people abandon their pets because they either feed themselves, or they feed the animal."

Missions Croquettes Solidaires soon to become a national federation

After two years in existence, the association will soon become a national federation. "It's a great opportunity for us," Hugo Bidault enthuses. Indeed, this name will enable us to open new branches all over France.

This new status will also help us to develop partnerships with other brands. "The price of pet food is rising all the time. So collections are less successful. That's why partnerships are so important," concludes the association's founder.
