Vietnam - Italy: boosting trade and investment cooperation

On March 28, the Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade, Nguyên Hông Diên, held a working session in Hanoi with Marco Della Seta, Italian Ambassador to Vietnam, and Regina Corradini D'Airenzo, CEO of SIMEST, which is responsible for promoting foreign investment by Italian companies and providing technical and financial support for investment projects.

Marco Della Selta affirmed that Italy appreciates and wishes to further strengthen cooperation ties between the two countries, particularly in the fields of economics, trade, industry and energy.

Italy considers Vietnam an important partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and highly values the crucial role of the Ministry of Industry and Trade in the Joint Economic Cooperation Committee, particularly as a bridge between businesses in the two countries, he said.

Regina Corradini D'Arienzo, for her part, presented SIMEST's tasks and objectives, which consist in supporting Italian companies in accessing new foreign markets through loans and targeted activities. She also reported on plans to open a SIMEST representative office in Vietnam.

On this occasion, Nguyên Hông Diên called on Italian companies to invest in Vietnam's ancillary garment and leather footwear industries, in which Italy has advantages in terms of technology and expertise, in order to take advantage of the benefits brought by the EVFTA.

He also presented the forthcoming Vietnam International Sourcing 2024 events organized by the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade in Ho Chi Minh City from June 6 to 8, and invited Italian companies and trade associations to join in.

The host also expressed the commitment of the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade to working closely with the Embassy to foster bilateral economic, trade, industrial and energy ties.

Italy is now Vietnam's third largest trading partner in the EU, while Vietnam is Italy's largest trading partner in ASEAN.
