The commune of Hangest-sur-Somme, west of Amiens near Flixecourt, will be offering a 1 euro canteen for less well-off families from the start of the new school year in September. The town council voted in favor of the scheme on Monday evening, and determined the price brackets according to family income.

Of the 65 children in the commune who attend the canteen, 11 will be able to benefit from the 1euro meal from September onwards.
The commune has determined three family quotient brackets:

1-For families whose family income is less than or equal to €1,000 per month, the price of the meal is €1.

2-For families with a monthly income of between €1,001 and €3,000, the price of a meal is €3.90.

3-For families with a family income of over €3,000, the price of the meal is €4.

The ESAT produces the meals, which cost 5€40.

Of this 5€40, the commune pays 1€40 and the State pays 3€ for households that will pay 1€ for the canteen.
For the 24 other children whose family income ranges from 1001€ to 3000€ per month, the mairie puts in 1€50 per child and per meal. This scheme has been in place since April 1, 2019.

In the Somme region, around twenty communes have set it up.
