German cooperation is interested in the creation of a regional agro-pastoral training center for transhumant herders in Mayo Rey.

On the sidelines of the second conference on cross-border transhumance organized by Comifac with the multi-faceted support of Germany's Federal ReFederal Republic of Germany, held in Yaoundé, Cameroon, through its Secretary of State H. E. Dr. Jochen Flasbarth.E. Dr Jochen Flasbarth, the German cooperation declared its intention to support the creation of a regional agro-pastoral training center for the indigenous and transhumant populations of Mayo Rey.

The ceremony was attended by the German Ambassador to Cameroon, H.E. Dr Corinna Fricke, the Minister of Employment and Vocational Training Mr Issa Tchiroma Bakary, the current Chairman of COMIFAC, Prof. Sanctus Niragira and several other ministers, heads of delegations from the eleven memberlegations of the eleven member countries of this organization, His Majesty Aboubakary ABDOULAYE Lamido of Rey-Bouba and Dr Abubakar Giri Wakili, representative of the Lamido of Adamawa in northern Nigeria.

While cross-border transhumance nowadays causes a number of environmental, economic, social and cultural problems, the lack of education for transhumants from one country to another is a crucial issue. The creation of this school will be a welcome step towards tackling most of the problems posed by this activity. In the medium and long term, this regional center, the fruit of exchanges between the traditional chieftaincies of the areas surrounding the BSB Yamoussa protected area complex, will be a key element in the development of the region.es of the BSB Yamoussa protected area complex, will be successful in meeting the challenges posed by the expansion of livestock production through transhumance and the threat of invasion of protected areas. Initiated by the Lamidat de Rey Bouba, the idea for this Center is based on the assumption that the ongoing training of indigenous and transhumant populations from Chad and Cameroon through short-term capacity building can have an influence on the development of the local population.s can have an immediate, positive and lasting influence on this issue, and produce knowledge and learning that can be capitalized on in COMIFAC member countries.

German development cooperation, through the GIZ Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (German Society for International Cooperation), commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Development and Economic Cooperation, is working on this project.velopment and Economic Cooperation (BMZ), is actively promoting the sustainable management of forest ecosystems and biodiversity in Central Africa. This involves the implementation of initiatives aimed at enhancing and improving the living conditions of the people of Central Africa, such as the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP), which aims to coordinate and intensify efforts to achieve the protection and sustainable use of forest resources in Central Africa. sustainable use of forest resources in the Congo Basin, the Sustainable Management of Congo Basin Forests program run under the political mandate of COMIFAC and including the GIZ Regional Support Project for COMIFAC and the Support Project for the Binational Complex Sena Oura in Chad and Bouba Ndjida in Cameroon (BSB Yamoussa). It should be noted that this Regional Agropastoral Training Centre for indigenous and transhumant populations in the Mayo Rey will be developed within the framework of the BSB - Yamoussa Project, on the outskirts of the Cameroon component of the Binational Complex (Bouba Ndjida). It should be noted that the stakes are all the higher as the BSB-Yamoussa Binational Complex represents one of the last refuges in the northern sub-Saharan region for endangered wildlife species. It is also of great importance for the preservation of biodiversity in the Sudano-Guinean zone of Central and West Africa.

The beneficiaries and even the Cameroonian authorities were delighted with the initiative, which is already eagerly awaited.
