France/Village revitalization: 7 municipalities in the Vimeu region chosen by the Hauts-de-France Region
The Hauts-de-France Region has launched an aid scheme for municipalities and territories (ACTes) as part of its new regional support policy for local authorities.
In October, the Hauts-de-France Region launched an aid program for municipalities and territories (ACTes) as part of its new regional policy to support local authorities.
ACTes includes a call for expressions of interest (AMI) for the revitalization of the region's town and city centers. 148 municipalities, which act as centers of activity within their territory, have been identified.
Christophe Coulon, vice-president in charge of rurality and security, and Guislain Cambier, vice-president in charge of territorial strategy and contractual policies, presented the terms of this AMI to the mayors of the municipalities concerned.
148 municipalities involved
Through this new ACTes policy, the Hauts-de-France Region intends to "continue the efforts made over the past three years to support and revitalize municipalities that perform functions of centrality poles within their territory," justifies the authority.
After the launch in 2019 of a call for projects for town centers that concerned 114 municipalities, this new AMI now identifies 148 municipalities labeled " Small Towns of Tomorrow " or having these centrality functions identified within their territory. It will help mayors develop, implement and monitor a strategy to enhance the attractiveness of their communities.
How to revitalize?
Three key objectives have been set as part of this AMI: to act on the overall attractiveness, to prevent the inflation of the commercial offer on the outskirts and to diversify commercial activities in line with new consumption models. It will be based on three specific components: urban development, crafts and trade, and assistance with project completion.
Revitalization operations that contribute directly to the overall and integrated project of the city center or town center, compatible with the principles of the third industrial revolution in Hauts-de-France (rev3) may be financed.
In the southwestern part of the Somme, seven municipalities have been identified: Friville-Escarbotin, Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, Mers-les-Bains, Gamaches, Oisemont, Feuquières-en-Vimeu and Cayeux-sur-Mer. In the latter, the traffic direction may be completely changed. The goal is to give back an identity to the center of Cayeux, and to make it exist next to the cabins and the path of boards.
