Canada, France

Since 2021, Paris and Montreal have been engaged in decentralized cooperation in the fight against exclusion. This year, a delegation from Quebec came to Paris to meet with associations and institutions and exchange best practices.

The fight against exclusion is practiced on both sides of the Atlantic. The problems are not always the same, but the objectives are similar: to help the most vulnerable. Hence this cooperation between Montreal and Paris to exchange on the best ways to help the most vulnerable.

Exchanging best practices

The first objective of this meeting is to encourage meetings between associations. For they are the ones who work with the homeless. The aim is to create close links between the different professionals in the field that can last beyond the end of the project in March 2023. Another objective is to improve the coordination between social and medico-social actors in the structures welcoming the homeless.
From September 14 to 16, the Montreal delegation met with associations and institutions involved in the fight against exclusion and visited emergency shelters for women. An exchange with Léa Filoche, deputy mayor of Paris in charge of solidarity, the fight against inequalities and exclusion, was also invited.
Several areas of work were retained:
  • Accompanying women in street situations;
  • Intervention of municipal agents in the public space and clarification of their missions towards homeless people;
  • Raising citizens' awareness of the fight against exclusion;
  • Innovative actions and measures for drug users.
