A call for projects dedicated to associations and civil society organizations will be launched at the end of April to implement the roadmaps developed in the framework of the Sehaty project aimed at improving access to health for local communities.

According to a press release issued by the Sehaty Consortium, the objective is to give a new impetus to the decentralization process through the implementation of a participatory and multisectoral approach applied to the right to health at the level of thirteen health districts spread over thirteen governorates: Sijoumi/Sidi-Hassine, Ettadhamen, Douar Hicher, Mohammedia (Greater Tunis pole), Aïn Draham, Sakiet Sidi Youssef, El Arroussa (North-West pole), Essouhour/HayEssalem, Sidi Bouzid West, Mdhila (Centre-West pole), El Hamma, Beni Kedeche and El Faouar (South pole).

Indeed, the Sehaty project aims to contribute to the improvement of the health of the population in the targeted areas (especially the most vulnerable groups). It is part of a broader programme of the Ministry of Health, "Essaha Aziza", financed by the European Union, and is based on two axes, namely the promotion of dialogue at the local level between civil society, the elected representatives and other public and private actors. The project is based on two axes, namely, the promotion of dialogue at the local level between civil society, the elected representatives and other public and private actors in the health sector, for better governance of the health system, and the strengthening of the structure and capacities of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the targeted areas for a more effective local intervention focused on health.

According to the same source, intense debates were recently held in each of the targeted health districts, during which members of civil society associations, public health personnel, representatives of municipalities, delegations and the general public participated. The purpose of these discussions was to identify and prioritize primary health care needs and to develop a community action plan to address these needs.

The 13 roadmaps developed during these dialogues are now being implemented in close collaboration with local institutions (Basic Health Centres, district hospitals, delegations, municipalities, youth centres, cultural centres).

Part of the activities will be financed by the Sehaty project as a contribution to the commitments of local actors. The total envelope will be 346'000 € spread over the 13 Health Circumscriptions knowing that the financing concerns the implementation of projects over a maximum duration of five months. However, CSOs are encouraged to apply with the activities proposed in the roadmaps to other funds and calls for projects, reads the same source.

After the selection of projects proposed by CSOs, the Sehaty consortium continues to accompany and closely monitor the implementation of activities and ensure the evaluation knowing that, says the statement.

"Sehaty" is implemented by Médecins du Monde Belgium Mission Tunisia and its partners COSPE Tunisia, Mourakiboun and Cideal Tunisia Foundation with the support of the European Union in Tunisia under the Essaha Aziza program.
