France, Palestine

The town has signed a twinning agreement and a commitment to mutual solidarity with Palestine. More specifically, with the Nur Shams refugee camp, represented by Nehad Shawish, for its popular committee, and the Association de jumelage entre les camps de réfugiés palestiniens et les villes françaises (AJPF), represented by its president, Charlotte Blandiot-Faride, mayor of Mitry-Mory (Seine-et-Marne).

This agreement follows on from exchanges between the municipality and the AJPF since 2021. In particular, the city has hosted Palestinian delegations and participated in the AJPF's national delegations to Palestine in June 2022 and 2023.

The principle

The municipality is committed, alongside the Association pour le jumelage entre les camps de réfugiés palestiniens et les villes françaises (AJPF), to defending the application of the rules of justice and respect for human rights for Palestinian reUN resolutions, in particular UN Resolution 194 adopted on December 11, 1948, which establishes the right of return for refugees.

The association

The AJPF is a Franco-Palestinian association, member of the Platform of NGOs for Palestine, which develops exchanges and twinning between French local authorities and Palestinian refugee camps. Its members are representatives of local authorities and solidarity associations.

"The situation of Palestinian refugees, in terms of numbers and duration, is a major injustice that remains unresolved to this day in the light of unimplemented international resolutions. This issue must return to the forefront of the objectives and diplomatic commitments of France and theEuropean Union, in order to achieve a just and lasting peace", said its President.
