France/ Ernée. An agreement to combat aquatic rodents

In 2021, the Communauté de communes de l'Ernée (CCE) adopted a partnership agreement with the Polleniz association to establish a financial partnership for the implementation of a coordinated prevention, monitoring and control program against invasive aquatic rodents. The agreement was signed for the years 2021 to 2023.

In 2022 and 2023: 14 cages were donated to communal groups, 770 muskrats were captured, 4,909 coypu were captured said Aude Roby, CCE vice-president in charge of water and sanitation, at the December 17 community council meeting.

At this meeting, it was decided to renew the partnership agreement for the years 2024 to 2026. The program established will enable the organization of two biannual collection meetings; an indoor event; and two intensive control campaigns per year, with the provision of equipment (trap-cage, quad, trailer). In terms of costs, the agreement provides for: €3,000 per year for animation; trapper compensation of €3 per capture. The cost for the year 2024 is €13,050, she added.
