France/Ayherre celebrates 41 years of twinning with Antzuola

The municipality of Ayherre welcomed its counterparts from Antzuola, Gipuzkoa, to celebrate over four decades of cross-border friendship and joint projects.

On Saturday November 18, Ayherre welcomed its friends from Antzuola, a village in Gipuzkoa, as part of the twinning arrangement that has united the two communes since 1984. Forty-one years of friendship and shared projects, a beautiful cross-border story that continues to unfold.

Last year, the two villages celebrated 40 years of twinning, first on April 13 in Antzuola and then on October 19 in Ayherre, by signing the third friendship agreement and organizing numerous events. One of the highlights was the creation of a hiking trail linking the two towns via the mountains, in twelve stages. The route, presented on the "Aiherra Antzuola Mugak zubi" website, now links the two villages on foot, from one slope to the other.

Small brewery

This year, it was Ayherre's turn to welcome the Antzuola delegation, on the initiative of theBeltzuntze cultural association and the municipality, with the participation of Antzuola town council and a group of friends. The day began at the town hall with a coffee and croissant, before a visit to the Sasiko brewery, founded a year ago by Eñaut Elosegi in the Apairi district. "It's a small craft brewery," explains the young brewer, who is working with other producers to create a local beer brand, Herrikoi. His beers are sold at markets, at the workshop and in a number of establishments in the Basque country.

Participants then visited Eragin Fabrika, a company based on the Mugan artisanal zone and founded by Xalbat Seosse-Oxarango. This modern 1,700 m² building, due to open in 2022, houses several activities: the Elikatxo workshop, the Pressoir du Pays Basque juice production facility, the launch of Euskola Basque cola and Abarratia beer. After a convivial tasting session, the day ended with a festive meal at the Gozategia restaurant, hosted by the txaranga Txitxirioak and attended by almost 90 guests in a warm atmosphere. A new stage in a lively and sincere twinning. Next year, it will be Ayherre's turn to visit Antzuola.
