Côte d'Ivoire/ Kalamon sub-prefecture watch committees trained in community mediation

The Bounkani Regional Director of National Cohesion and Solidarity, Kambou Sansan, led a training session on community mediation on Tuesday in the department of Doropo, for the watch committees of this border zone with Burkina Faso.

At the training session, held on Tuesday July 23, 2024, Mr. Kambou stressed the importance of community mediation as a valuable asset for fostering peace and living together. According to him, this approach enables conflicts to be prevented and resolved in a sustainable way, based on the local values and traditions of communities.

Mr. Kambou also stressed the essential role of mediation in strengthening social cohesion and intercultural dialogue.By fostering mutual understanding and cooperation between different groups, this method contributes to building a more harmonious and cohesive society," he said.

The training, supported by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), is part of the US-funded "Strengthening the Northern Borders of Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana and Togo" project, and the "Promoting cross-border cooperation for the prevention of poverty" project.ration for Crisis Prevention and Strengthening State Structures to Establish or Ensure Stability in Fragile Border Areas", funded by the Federal Ministry of Germany.

These projects focus on building the capacities of national actors involved in border management, strengthening community resilience and social cohesion in the region.s resilience and social cohesion in the north of the country, in order to improve stability and security in border regions.
