Tobène Power has awarded a grant of 10 million CFA francs to the Federation of Village Savings and Credit Associations (AVEC) in the municipality of Taïba Ndiaye to support women’s economic empowerment and local development.

The grant was presented to the leaders of the recipient organization during a ceremony held Tuesday in Minam, a village in the municipality of Taïba Ndiaye, as part of Tobène Power’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

The president of the AVEC Federation, Amy Fall, praised Tobène Power’s financial support for the 49 member savings and credit associations, while pledging to ensure “transparent and responsible management” of the grant.

She called on partners to continue supporting women’s economic initiatives.

The 49 AVECs had previously received support in the areas of organizational structuring, training, and the exchange of experiences.

Amy Fall highlighted the role of these groups in financing income-generating activities and meeting household needs, particularly with regard to children’s education.

The representative from Tobène Power, Seynabou Ba, highlighted women’s contribution to the development of families and communities, noting that by supporting their economic activities, her company is helping to improve people’s living conditions.

Ndiarlo Ba Kébé, representing the community development department, encouraged the beneficiaries to make the most of the grant they received, aiming to increase its value to 20 million CFA francs by 2027.

She assured the beneficiaries that community development stakeholders and Plan International would be available to support them in managing and monitoring their activities.

The director of Plan International in Thiès, Samba Fatim Mbaye, praised the involvement of administrative authorities, local governments, technical services, and community leaders in this project.

For Amadou Garmi Wade, deputy sub-prefect of Méouane, this project is “a tremendous opportunity” for the municipality to boost its local economy and improve the living conditions of its residents by supporting women.

The Tobène Power plant is a major energy facility located approximately 90 km northeast of Dakar, in the municipality of Taïba Ndiaye.

This facility, which has been operational since 2016, operates as an independent power producer (IPP).

It sells its electricity to Senelec under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
