Ivory Coast / Monitoring committees established to strengthen the fight against gender-based violence in Kong

The Kong Social Center has established monitoring committees in the towns of Konieré, Mapina, Sidana, and Digakoro to strengthen efforts to prevent and combat gender-based violence (GBV).

These committees were established following a meeting held on July 10 at the Kong subprefecture, attended by administrative officials and community leaders.

The director of the Kong Social Center, Hermann Brou, emphasized that these community structures will be tasked with reporting cases of violence, mistreatment, and abuse occurring in their localities to the relevant authorities, while also helping to raise public awareness about the rights of vulnerable people.

The prefect of Kong Department, Ouattara Yacouba, praised this initiative, noting that it will help reduce gender-based violence and strengthen the protection of the population. “We must work together to build a just and equitable society, free from all forms of discrimination and mistreatment,” he said.

On behalf of the participants, Ouattara Oumar called on community leaders to collaborate closely with the Social Center to ensure the success of the social protection initiatives being implemented in the villages.

The Kong Social Center regularly conducts awareness campaigns in partnership with the Association of Women Lawyers of Côte d’Ivoire (AFJCI), the Cotton Marketing Company (SECO), and other organizations. These initiatives focus in particular on combating gender-based violence, promoting girls’ education, preventing early marriage, ending female genital mutilation, and combating school dropout rates in several localities across the department.
