France/An Irish handcrafted harp marks the 30th anniversary of the sister-city relationship between Kilmacow and Saint-Thurien
Members of the Kilmacow (Ireland) sister city committee arrived in Saint-Thurien (Finistère) for a visit from July 25 to August 1, 2026. On Sunday, the twinning committee and the municipality organized a ceremony at the community center to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the twinning.
The twinning committee of Saint-Thurien (Finistère) traveled to Kilmacow, Ireland, in July 2025. The trip marked the 30th anniversary of the twinning committee. The twinning agreement between Saint-Thurien and Kilmacow was signed in July 1995 in Saint-Thurien. During this trip, the Saint-Thurien twinning committee was presented with a magnificent gift: a harp designed by Colm Walsh, one of the sons of Mary Walsh, the chair of the twinning committee.
Celebrating 30 Years in Brittany
Members of the Kilmacow twinning committee arrived in Saint-Thurien for a visit from July 25 to August1. On Sunday at noon, the twinning committee and the municipality organized a ceremony at the town hall to celebrate the30th anniversary of the twinning, this time in Brittany.
For 30 years, our twinning has been a symbol of a beautiful Franco-Irish friendship, founded on exchange, sharing, and camaraderie. Strong bonds of friendship have been forged. In July 2025, our friends gave us a wonderful surprise by presenting us with a magnificent harp, created by designer Colm Walsh. “We wanted this superb gift to have a very special place in our community. So the municipality, with advice from Jean Dauphin, decided to showcase it on one of our municipal buildings,” said Anne-Marie Sévennec, president of the twinning committee and mayor of the town, with emotion.
Installation of the Harp and Introduction to Brittany
Mary Walsh and Jean Dauphin unveiled the harp, installed on the wall of the municipal hall, to those present for the occasion. Following the ceremony, a convivial meal took place at the same location. The rest of the trip was very active, as the group visited the Crozon Peninsula, Camaret, Dinan, Cap de la Chèvre, Morgat, and Pointe de Penhir.
A visit to Brest Harbor is also planned, as well as a trip to Pointe du Grand Minou, Anse de Bertheaume, Pointe Saint-Mathieu, Le Conquet, Pointe de Corsen, the scenic route to Aber Wrac’h, and Suscinio Castle. A few days to discover the beauty of the Breton landscapes.
