Canada / The Pierre-De Saurel RCM Launches the "Faces of Saurel" Podcast Series
The Pierre-De Saurel RCM is launching “Visages de Saurel,” a series of 12 podcasts dedicated to the women and men who have shaped the history of the region’s municipalities. Through these profiles, the public is invited to discover the people who have shaped the region’s identity, culture, and development.
This series offers an accessible and captivating look at local history, allowing residents to discover or rediscover their heritage while strengthening their sense of belonging.
“Our history is rich with women and men who have helped build the communities we know today. With *Visages de Saurel*, we aim to share these inspiring stories, strengthen our sense of belonging, and pass on this legacy to current and future generations,” said Vincent Deguise, prefect of the Pierre-De Saurel RCM.
The individuals selected are Aignan-Aimé Massue and Gaspard-Aimé Massue for Massueville; René Fézeret, Marie Carlier, Marie-Joseph(t)e (Marie-Rose) Fézeret for Saint-Aimé; Jacques David, Josias Würtele, Jonathan Würtel, Jonathan Saxton Campbell Würtele, and Armand Mondou for Saint-David; Germaine Thibault and Jean-Claude Tessier for Saint-Gérard-Majella; Daniel McCarthy, John McCarthy, and Thomas McCarthy for Saint-Joseph-de-Sorel; Dominic Arpin and Pierre de Saint-Ours for Saint-Ours; Gilles Salvas for Saint-Robert; Ambroise Larivière, Bernard Larivière, Claude Larivière and Martin Larivière for Saint-Roch-de-Richelieu, Germaine Guèvremont and Walter S. White for Sainte-Anne-de-Sorel, Agathe Pelletier, Michel Mathieu, Jean-Louis Leduc, the Dufault and Forgeron families, and Jos Dufault for Sainte-Victoire-de-Sorel; Catherine Legardeur, Rose-Adrienne Provost, Georges-Isidore Barthe, Dr. Joseph-Willie Robidoux, and Bishop Philippe Desranleau and Sorel-Tracy, as well as André Parenteau, Dominique Charland, Louis-Joseph Godefroy de Tonnancourt, Joseph-Marie Godefroy de Tonnancourt, Léonard Godefroy de Tonnancourt, and Michel Fourquin for Yamaska.
The series is hosted by André Champagne. The Pierre-de-Saurel Historical Society (SHPS) partnered with the MRC on the project, and Agence Phonique handled the scriptwriting, production, and post-production. This project was made possible thanks to financial support from the Government of Quebec and the Pierre-De Saurel MRC as part of the 2025–2027 Cultural Development Agreement.
The podcasts are now available on the Pierre-De Saurel MRC’s website and YouTube channel. Over the coming weeks, promotional posters will also be displayed on buses operated by the Société de transport collectif (STC) Pierre-De Saurel. Featuring a QR code, these posters will allow passengers to easily access episodes of the “Visages de Saurel” series directly from their smartphones.
