Chad/Health and Hygiene: SEMATN-IST transforms the INSTA campus in Abéché

On Saturday January 17, 2026, the Institut National Supérieur de Sciences et Techniques d'Abéché swapped notebooks for brooms. Under the impetus of the SEMATN-IST organization, a vast clean-up operation mobilized the university community to make sanitation a bulwark against disease.

As part of its efforts to promote health and prevent disease, the organization Solidarité pour l'Éradication des Maladies Tropicales Négligées et des Infections Sexuellement Transmissibles (SEMATN-IST) organized a health event on Saturday January 17, 2026 at the Institut National Supérieur de Sciences et Techniques d'Abéché (INSTA).

This initiative aims to :

  • Improve the university environment.
  • Prevent diseases linked to insalubrity, in particular neglected tropical diseases.

The activity mobilized :

  • SEMATN-IST members
  • Students
  • Institute administrative and teaching staff

All participated in a spirit of solidarity and civic commitment.

The actions consisted mainly of :

  • Cleaning up campus outdoor areas
  • Waste collection
  • Cleaning up the premises

This collective mobilization helped improve hygiene conditions and contribute to the creation of a healthier learning environment for the university community.

SEMATN-IST also took the opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of sanitation as a key factor in preventing infectious diseases and promoting public health.
