France/A Montoire-sur-le-Loir, le comité de jumelage relancé: with which town will exchanges resume?
For several years, the twinning committee of Montoire-sur-le-Loir (Loir-et-Cher) had been dormant. It has now been relaunched with a new board and a new destination.
A few months ago, the town of Commequiers, located in the Vendée department not far from Saint-Hilaire de Riez, proposed a twinning arrangement with Montoire-sur-le-Loir(Loir-et-Cher). This led to the "reawakening" of the Montoire twinning committee, created in 2002.
At the time, a twinning had been organized with the Polish town of Lowicz, some 70 km from the capital, Warsaw.
Montoire twinning committee relaunched
President Jacques Derrien and treasurer Cécilia Nauch celebrated the twinning's fifth and tenth anniversaries in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The Covid crisis had somewhat weakened the ties that had been forged.
From now on, Montoire will be twinned with the town of Commequiers. Like Montoire, Commequiers has a population of around 4,000. Both have a prestigious heritage, including the remains of an imposing medieval château.
Commequiers is part of the Pays de Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie in the heart of the Vendée bocage . Both communes have markets where local producers offer quality produce. Numerous associations contribute to the quality of life of local residents.
A new start
In Montoire, to replace the resigning members of the Comité de jumelage, elections were held to form the new board of directors. Under the terms of the articles of association, the board is made up of 12 members, including the mayor and five elected representatives of the commune, as well as representatives of associations and individuals.
