Morocco/Aousserd province: ONEE launches construction of a hybrid power plant to boost electricity supply
On Monday, the Office national de l'électricité et de l'eau potable (ONEE) launched the construction of a hybrid power plant with battery storage backed by solar energy and thermal flexibility at the Aousserd Center in the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region.
As part of the development drive driven by the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, this project will help to sustainably strengthen the power supply to the Aousserd Centre, while improving the efficiency and reliability of the regional energy system.lectrical supply to the Aousserd Center, while improving the efficiency and reliability of the regional energy system, according to a ONEE press release.
With a total investment of 56.4 million dirhams (MDH), this project is supported by several institutional partners, including the wilaya of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, the regional council and the provincial council of Aousserd.gional Council, and the Aousserd Provincial Council, as well as the Direction Générale des Collectivités Territoriales, indicates the same source, adding that commissioning is scheduled for the end of 2026.
The project comprises a 1.5 MWp solar photovoltaic power plant, a 5 MWh battery storage system, connection to the existing diesel power plant (1.05 MVA) and an intelligent supervision and management system (EMS/SCADA).
Thanks to this hybridization, the province of Aousserd will benefit from a continuous power supply 24 hours a day, a reduction in the production cost per kilowatt-hour and a reduction in the cost of electricity.t per kilowatt-hour and a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions thanks to the increased integration of renewable sources.
Beyond its energy dimension, this project is of major socio-economic importance, in that it will generate several dozenjobs during the construction phase, strengthen local skills, support regional economic activities and thus contribute to improving Aousserd's territorial attractiveness.
It should be noted that this project is fully in line with the drive to enhance and develop the Kingdom's southern provinces, which have become a veritable pole of growth and investment.
