Senegal/Pire: the "Nataal Ngaye" program and the Ndiffif youth association launch a community reforestation project.
The "Nataal Ngaye" program implementation committee, in partnership with the Ndiffif youth association, has reforested 150 trees in the commune of Pire and attached villages, as part of a community reforestation operation.
A total of 150 seedlings, including 100 shade and forest trees, were planted to reinforce plant cover and combat the advance of land degradation.
The organizers of this community reforestation also distributed 50 trees to families, with a view to contributing to food security and diversifying household incomes.
The initiative took place in the village of Ndiffif, in the commune of Pire, and in the neighboring localities of Thiawaré and Ngoulé.
The operation was preceded by a vast clean-up day conducted by the Société nationale de gestion des dé(SONAGED), which brought its technical expertise and equipment to clear the area of unauthorized dumping grounds, prior to planting the seedlings.
This preparatory phase generated a favorable climate and a large mobilization of young people, women and village elders.
According to Lamine Ndiaye, coordinator of the "Nataal Ngaye" program and surrounding area, the initiators of this program aim to equip Ndiffif with a modern nursery, capable of regularly supplying quality seedlings to all the localities in the region.
"This project goes beyond simply supplying trees for reforestation: it's about creating community autonomy in terms of reforestation and environmental protection", he emphasized.
Baye Ndiaga Khoulé, spokesman for the Ndiffif youth association, reaffirmed the determination of local youth to pursue this dynamic. "We have decided to join forces with the women, the elders and all those of good will, to make Ndiffif a model green village in Cayor", he declared.
The people praised the constant support of Khalifa Sarr, Managing Director of SONAGED, a son of the soil described as a "loyal and committed partner".
"Mr. Sarr has never ceased to accompany us, always reminding us that the well-being of a village begins with a clean living environment that respects the environment", testified a village dignitary.
Through this initiative, the "Naatal Ngaye" and surrounding area program aims to become a driving force for anchoring an environmental and civic culture within rural communities.
Stakeholders intend to make it an illustration of the relevance of a synergy of actions between local associations, technical services and institutional partners, for ecological resilience and sustainable development.
