Vietnam - Laos/ Vietnamese and Lao press strengthen cooperation in the digital age
As part of its working visit to Vietnam, a delegation from the Pasaxon newspaper - the official organ of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party - led by Vansay Tavinyan, Vice-Chief of the Central Committee's Propaganda and Ideological Training Department and editor-in-chief of the newspaper, held numerous meetings and working sessions with Vietnamese press and propaganda organizations.
On September 24, at the head office of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) in Hanoi, its General Manager Vu Viet Trang received a delegation from the Pasaxon newspaper. Representatives of the newspaper Nhân Dân (The People), the central organ of the Communist Party of Vietnam, also took part in the working session.
Vu Viet Trang expressed his pleasure at welcoming the delegation, saying that VNA attaches great importance to the bonds of trust and cooperation with Pasaxon. These ties are reflected not only in the regular exchange of information, but also in a professional and fraternal relationship between colleagues.
She pointed out that, just as Pasaxon is the official organ of the Lao Party and State, the VNA is the country's national information agency, providing official sources of information in the service of the Party and State. This similarity of mission and objectives provides a solid basis for a close partnership, particularly in the current context where the press is undergoing profound transformation as a result of digital technology.
The CEO shared VNA's experience in digital transition: modernizing infrastructure, building data centers, and using artificial intelligence in news production - from machine translation to trend analysis and content personalization. Thanks to these advances, VNA has maintained steady growth in terms of production and audience, despite a reduction in its workforce over the past decade.
She pointed out that VNA already publishes several products in the Lao language, including an electronic newspaper and a photographic magazine distributed directly in Laos, thus contributing to the promotion of ties of friendship and solidarity between the two countries.
Vu Viet Trang also recalled the fruitful cooperation between VNA and the Lao Press Agency (KPL), citing joint projects such as the establishment of the ASEAN 2024 website during the Lao presidency of ASEAN. She expressed the hope that the Lao authorities would continue to create favorable conditions for further effective cooperation between VNA and KPL.
Pasaxon stresses the importance of partnership
On behalf of his delegation, Vansay Tavinyan warmly thanked the VNA for its solemn welcome and expressed his admiration for the VNA's 80-year history. He affirmed that Pasaxon closely follows VNA's products, especially those in the Lao language, which constitute a valuable resource for the newspaper's communication activities.
He pointed out that VNA's Vientiane office cooperates regularly with Pasaxon, facilitating the rapid exchange of information and photos, thus enhancing the efficiency of both outlets' professional activities. The editor-in-chief also expressed his wish to continue receiving support from VNA, particularly in the application of digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
He praised Nhân Dân 's help in setting up and running the Pasaxon website, which is attracting a growing audience. This progress illustrates the newspaper's dynamic adaptation to the digital age.
The day before, on September 23, the Pasaxon delegation was received by Phan Xuân Thuy, Vice-Chief of the Party's Central Commission for Mass Mobilization and Education.
During the meeting, Phan Xuân Thuy reiterated that, faced with the digital transition, the Vietnamese and Lao press must strengthen their mutual support in innovating content and communication methods, particularly in the development of online newspapers. Vietnam is always ready to welcome Lao journalists for exchanges and training.
For his part, Vansay Tavinyan expressed his deep gratitude to the Vietnamese Party, State and media organizations for their constant support, stressing that press relations between the two countries vividly reflect the special Vietnam-Laos friendship. He called for the effective implementation of the 2024-2029 bilateral cooperation program, including professional training for Lao journalists.
Towards enhanced cooperation
During their mission, the members of the Pasaxon delegation also visited several VNA newsrooms, including Tin tức và Dân tộc, to exchange views on professional activities and explore new opportunities for cooperation.
True to their tradition of strong partnership and mutual trust, the media in both countries are striving to embrace new trends in global communication, particularly digital transformation. Strengthening cooperation in this area will not only enhance the effectiveness of communication, but also help to consolidate and deepen the relations of traditional friendship, special solidarity and integral cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
