Togo/ Access to drinking water: Togo adopts a citizen engagement strategy
At the end of last week, Togo adopted a citizen engagement strategy for the implementation of the Projet d'Amélioration de la Sécurité Hydrique en Milieu Urbain (PASH-MUT). This document defines a series of actions designed to ensure the project's inclusive implementation.
The strategy focuses on communication, consultation and the dissemination of information to all stakeholders, in line with the Stakeholder Mobilization Plan (PMPP). The plan includes awareness-raising campaigns, complaint management mechanisms and the involvement of local committees. The aim is to "move away from the logic of passive beneficiaries to that of fully involved citizens".
It also incorporates the World Bank's Environmental and Social Standards (ESS), by promoting participatory mechanisms that guarantee transparency and public support.
With this system, the PASH-MUT coordination aims to strengthen citizen participation and accelerate the implementation of activities in order to achieve the objectives set: to sustainably improve access to drinking water and sanitation in Greater Lomé, while optimizing the management of water resources and the performance of service operators.
As a reminder, PASH-MUT is financed by the World Bank to the tune of 46 billion FCFA, and will run for six years.
