France/Trélazé. The town celebrates 15 years of twinning with the German town of Ketsch
From July 11 to 14, the town of Trélazé welcomed a delegation from Germany as part of its twinning with the town of Ketsch.
The two towns enjoy a special relationship, and this year marks the 15th anniversary of this European cooperation. To mark the occasion, a new twinning agreement was signed between the two towns to continue the dynamic, modern exchanges.
"It's not just a friendship between two mayors," says Lamine Naham. Together with Timo Wangler, their aim is to set up a twinning arrangement for the future, involving the local population and creating strong links between the communities.
For example, young people from Ketsch came to Trélazé for the Olympic torch relay, and exchanges have taken place between youth chess clubs. Links are also being forged between the various French and German associations.
To this end, the town of Trélazé has introduced subsidy criteria to enable project sponsors to facilitate exchanges between the two towns. " Brotherhood cannot be taken for granted, it has to be cultivated", reminds the mayor of Trélazé. And in this respect, working to get to know each other lays the essential foundations to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past.
This augurs well for future exchanges between Maine-et-Loire and Baden-Württemberg.
