As in previous years, the communes of Hauts-de-Seine feature prominently in the list of France's safest cities. This year, nine of them made it into the top 30.

It's become a habit. The Hauts-de-Seine is once again one of France's safest departments, according to the annual rankings published by the weekly Valeurs Actuelles. Several of the region's towns made the top 10, including Asnières-sur-Seine, which came third, just behind Meaux and Ajaccio. Last year's front-runner, Courbevoie, remains in the top 10, in sixth place. For the local authorities, this good result is seen as recognition of their efforts in the area of safety.

"We have no intention of relaxing our efforts".

"It's no coincidence that we remain at the top of the rankings," says Michel Georget, Courbevoie's deputy safety officer, toactu Paris. And the town is determined to continue on this path. There are now 135 surveillance cameras in Courbevoie, six more than last year. "Our territory is now 75% covered", explains the town councillor.

The latest initiative is the purchase of a mobile vehicle, recently put into service, which criss-crosses the commune to meet residents. "The initial feedback has been very positive," assures Michel Georget. An additional motorcycle has also been added to the municipal police fleet.

"We're continuing in the same vein as in previous years, but we don't intend to slacken our efforts", he asserts, especially since, according to the mayor's office, crime figures have been falling in recent months.

Asnières-sur-Seine relies on video surveillance

Video surveillance is also at the heart of Asnières-sur-Seine' s security strategy. The city has 174 masts equipped with cameras, covering some 450 viewing angles across the entire territory. "The logic is to aim for total coverage, not to leave blind spots," city mayor Manuel Aeschlimann tellsactu Paris.

"Our municipal police are active, fully supported by the mayor's office both morally and financially. And if need be, we will increase the number of officers".

In terms of staffing levels, the municipality is mobilizing 62 officers, 26 ASVPs, 12 operators in charge of video protection, a manager at the urban supervision center (CSU), as well as a motorized brigade (BMO) made up of six officers. A canine brigade, with three dogs, completes the team, not forgetting a mountain bike brigade deployed in the field.

Proud of his ranking, the mayor sees it as recognition of the work accomplished. " The good figures show that we are doing better than others". Crime levels are also down, according to the municipality.

Nine communes in the département in the top ten

Other towns in the Hauts-de-Seine region also feature in the rankings, including Neuilly-sur-Seine, the town with the lowest number of muggings in France, according to the weekly, and Clichy, tied for third place in the list of least-burglarized towns.
