The Portugal-Vietnam Friendship Association made its debut in Porto, Portugal, marking a milestone in the strengthening of ties between the two countries.

In the future, the association plans to carry out a wide range of activities to deepen people-to-people exchanges, connect businesses, strengthen academic partnerships and develop cultural and sporting links between the two nations.

The Chargé d'Affaires of the Vietnamese Embassy in Portugal, Nguyên Manh Thang, congratulated the association on its launch, which comes at a symbolic time when the two countries are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. He hailed the association as an important initiative that will strengthen the warm and cooperative ties between Vietnam and Portugal.

The diplomat urged the association to continue to promote Vietnam's image in Portugal, develop bilateral cooperation in areas relevant to their expertise, and support key events. expertise, and to support key events organized by the Vietnamese Embassy, notably community development projects in Vietnam.

The Portugal-Vietnam Friendship Association was founded by a group of Portuguese friends of Vietnam who have played an active role in strengthening bilateral relations in recent years, including the establishment of the twinning between Hô Chi Minh City and Porto (July 2023) and between the province of Dông Nai and Nova Vila de Gaia (May 2025), cooperation between the economics faculties of theVietnam National University in Hanoi and the University of Porto, as well as numerous commercial, investment, cultural and sporting exchanges.

The association currently has some 50 members based in major Portuguese cities such as Lisbon, Porto, Braga and Nova Vila de Gaia, representing a variety of professions including law, academia, sports coaching and municipal administration.
