The commune of Bobo-Dioulasso is entering a new phase in its urban development. On Monday June 16, 2025, Laurent Kontogom, president of the special municipal delegation, launched paving work on the city's arteries. For this first phase, the operation concerns the area around the Maison de la Culture, on avenue Châlons-en-Champagne. The launch ceremony was attended by several of the city's authorities, including Captain Mamadou Hema, head of the "Faso mêbo" presidential initiative in Bobo-Dioulasso.

With this solemn ceremony, the Bobo-Dioulasso commune's highest authorities kicked off the paving and street beautification component of the Faso mêbo presidential initiative. Two weeks ago, Laurent Kontogom, president of the special communal delegation, officially launched paving stone production activities at the artisanal village in Bindougousso, sector 14 of Bobo-Dioulasso.

After two weeks of purging, he said he was delighted to officially launch the process of paving the arteries of the city of Bobo-Dioulasso. The initiative is part of the local authorities' urban development program, which aims to improve living conditions for local residents by rehabilitating and modernizing urban roads. In his speech, Laurent Kontogom, president of the special communal delegation, stressed the importance of this work for urban mobility, hygiene and the beautification of the city.

"The Faso mêbo program, initiated by the Burkinabe government, aims to improve the living environment of citizens through urban development projects in the country's major cities. As you can see, in the long term, this project will pave most of the arteries we have, and of course this is part of the landscaping. It's a salutary project for the commune of Bobo-Dioulasso, because it's our usual task, but we've received exceptional support from Faso mêbo", said President Laurent Kontogom.

He took the opportunity to thank the contributors and invite the population to continue supporting the project through their various contributions. He also praised the State's commitment to the program. The president of the commune's special delegation announced that the commune would not only be handing over its contribution, but would also be taking part in the paving work on Friday.

Responding to the appeal of the President of Faso, citizens of the town made donations to support the program. Adama Ouédraogo of SOMAC-BTP offered the initiative 40 tonnes of cement and 11 truckloads of sand to support the efforts already underway in the field. This program reflects the determination of the country's highest authorities to make our cities more liveable, so it's our duty to support it," he said.

A group of economic operators also donated 100 tonnes of cement to the program. The local populations expressed their satisfaction and their hope to see other sites benefit from the program.
