Two cheques from two Vihiers-based associations were presented to the Ligue contre le cancer on Tuesday June 3. The creation of a League space was also announced, in partnership with the local Vihiers hospital.

Two Vihiersois associations recently demonstrated their commitment to the Ligue contre le cancer, by presenting significant donations to its local representatives, on Tuesday June 3 at Montilliers town hall, in the presence of Philippe Bernard, mayor of the commune.

Roger Guillet, local delegate of the Ligue contre le cancer for the Vihiersois sector, and Philippe Algoët, coordinator and animator for Lys-Haut-Layon, received two cheques on behalf of the Ligue. The first, for €1,300, was presented by the Rayon de SoleilAge Club of Cléré-sur-Layon, which has been organizing a tea dance in aid of the fight against cancer for 27 years. The association's president, Roland Daigneau, was present at the official presentation.

The second cheque, for €1,475, came from the L'Âge heureux association in Montilliers, a loyal supporter of the League for 35 years through its annual belote competition. Once again, President Joseph Grolleau was on hand to thank the volunteers and donors.

Equal access to healthcare

Philippe Algoët welcomed these initiatives: "I'm making contacts to launch events. We're stepping up a gear with our volunteers. The sums collected are used, according to a rigorous charter, for aid and support for patients, research, representation to public authorities and the acquisition of equipment."

He also recalled a fundamental principle of the League: "Equal access to care, everywhere in the country, is a value we defend. Every patient must have the same rights, wherever he or she is treated."

Finally, Philippe Algoët announced the creation of a Ligue contre le cancer space in Vihiers, in partnership with the local hospital. This place of listening and support will welcome patients and families, with the help of trained volunteers. A team is also gearing up to carry out preventive actions, particularly on risky behaviors such as smoking.
