Belgium/UZ Brussel and Erasmus Hospital launch pancreatic cancer research group
On Wednesday, the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB), UZ Brussel and Hôpital Erasme/Institut Jules Bordet launched the first joint group dedicated to pancreatic cancer research. Called the Brussels Pancreatic Cancer Team (BruPaCT), the group aims to further structure collaboration between the institutions, pool the use of patient samples and facilitate access to state-of-the-art technological infrastructures.
Pancreatic cancer remains one of the most lethal types of cancer, with five-year survival rates barely improving in recent decades. By integrating research efforts and sharing resources, BruPaCT aims to accelerate the development of new treatments and strategies.
This collaboration should facilitate the exchange of data, samples and information. BruPaCT focuses on several key areas in the fight against the disease: tumor initiation and progression, tumor and tissue profiling, innovative treatments, surgical advances and early detection programs. By pooling their resources, the BruPaCT partners are strengthening their ability to attract research funding and develop international collaboration. "Brussels thus further consolidates its leading role in Belgian pancreatic cancer research", conclude the institutions.
