Chad: ACORD/TCHAD equips CSOs on the communal budget and education in Barh El Gazel
On May 19, 2025, the NGO ACORD/TCHAD organized a workshop at the premises of the NGO OXFAM to disseminate thematic guides on local budgeting and an in-depth study of the education system in the province of Barh El Gazel (BEG).
This meeting is part of the CAGOT project, funded by OXFAM in Chad, and aims to build the capacity of civil society organizations (CSOs) and community-based organizations (CBOs). The main objective is to provide local players with the knowledge and tools they need to promote greater accountability of public services, in particular through an in-depth understanding of the communal budgeting process.
The event brought together a wide range of participants, including representatives from deconcentrated government departments, provincial delegations, local authorities and local authorities.services, provincial delegations, communal authorities, youth and women's organizations, as well as local media. The exchanges were led by facilitator Mahamat Moussa Absakine Gadaya, who encouraged open and participatory dialogue.
Discussions highlighted the importance of active citizenship in addressing the challenges facing local authorities. Participants expressed their interest and commitment to becoming more involved in the management of public affairs, particularly with regard to budget transparency and local education policies.
The testimonies gathered showed a growing awareness of the crucial role of citizens in supporting local authorities, notably through monitoring public spending and participating in the development of educational projects. The workshop led to a better understanding of local financing mechanisms and open governance strategies.
In conclusion, this initiative was an important step in building the capacities of local players. The dissemination of these guides is helping to foster citizen involvement and establish a culture of transparency and participation at municipal level. Although the road to fully inclusive governance remains long, this type of action marks tangible progress towards a more equitable and responsible society.
