Togo: a project to measure air quality in several cities, including Lomé
On Tuesday April 29, 2025, Togo's National Environmental Management Agency (ANGE) launched the Togo Air Quality Project (PQAT), which aims to measure, analyze and improve air quality in the country's major conurbations, starting with the capital.
Launched against a backdrop of increasing urban sprawl, the PQAT targets the main sources of air pollution: the use of firewood, uncontrolled industrialization and the open burning of waste.
" This project is designed to deploy measuring stations, so that we know what threats we face on a daily basis," explains Lantam Djeri Wake, PQAT coordinator.
The intervention is structured around three phases: setting up sensors, analyzing and disseminating data, and encouraging more sustainable consumption patterns.
The PQAT has an estimated budget of 4 billion FCFA and is scheduled to run for five years.
